I attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, a nationally ranked athletic program, where I played alongside high caliber college recruits and current professional athletes. My senior year, we were ranked #3 in the state of California and nationally ranked #18 according to MaxPreps. I was a one year lettermen for the varsity team and had to overcome adversity just to make the team.
My high school coach only kept a 12 player roster and told me that I was the 13th in pre-season. He explained that I can continue to be apart of the team but would only be a practice player and not travel with the team. I end up taking this opportunity, but not with the intent of being a practice player. I knew I could compete with the 12 players ahead of me and even felt that I was better than most; I was just dealing with a lack of confidence. As pre-season continued I overcame my lack of confidence and made my presence known to the coaches. I stayed in the gym after hours and went at all 12 of the players that were ahead of me in practice. My head coach noticed my efforts and even began to praise me in practice. By the conclusion of pre-season, I went from being the 13th player on the roster to that 8th position. The coaching staff changed their mind and allowed me to travel the country with the team. This remarkable performance and my development throughout the season led to me being awarded Most Improved Player.
I didn’t receive any college interest straight out of high school due to the high prospects that played ahead of me; this years team (2012-13) produced over 5 scholarship athletes including a current player for the Golden State Warriors. I stuck to my goal of playing collegiate basketball and found myself a home at Earlham College, where I was a two-year team captain for the men’s basketball team. I am a Class of 2017 graduate from Earlham College with a B.A. in Business & Non-profit Management and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Management with a concentration in Sports & Leadership. I have a passion for student-athlete development and love bringing the best out of players! I am excited for the opportunity to work with Evolution Basketball Training and I hope to inspire the players I work with and help them achieve high levels of success in their lives.
