My desire to become an Evolutionmark phillips college action shot trainer was fueled by being an overweight child who was constantly told that my weight was a factor, and I wouldn’t be able to play basketball if it didn’t change. It was my dad who told me that if I stick with the sport I would have opportunities some kids only dream of. My passion came from my father as I would watch him play countless hours of basketball every Saturday morning and I remember saying to myself, that will be me one day. When I was 13 years old,  I got into a terrible pedestrian accident which almost caused me to lose my right leg. I went through almost a full year of recovery and learned how to walk all over again. It wasn’t until this point in which I gained a greater appreciation for the sport.

I went on to become a high school student athlete where I had to compete each and every year for playing time. I just stuck with the process, knowing that  just being able to play again was a blessing in itself. I attended Northern Virginia’s community college for two years where my game finally took off. I went from a player who was clumsy and out of shape to a starter averaging a double double. I was able to thrive in this situation because of a great coaching staff who not only helped develop me as a player, but also as a person. From there I received a full athletic scholarship at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. My first year at Wise we won the district title and received an invitation to play in the NAIA D2 national tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. The experience was incredible and it is something that I will never forget. During my two years there I was also a Dean’s List recipient earning a 3.5 GPA.

The trials along the journey were not easy, but they were definitely worth it! The tough road to success made me the person I am today. I am a firm believer that you can do anything you set your mind to. Basketball has created countless positive opportunities for me including, education, jobs, friendships, and more. Basketball has taught me how to be disciplined, how to work as a team, how to battle through adversity, how to be a good student, and most of all how to have fun! I truly enjoy seeing the growth in each and every young kid that I have the opportunity to work with.

As a trainer, coach, and former player I get to see every aspect of young athletes and how they develop on and off the court. As my playing career has come to a close, I have realized my passion and desire to help guide young players to successful basketball careers and beyond. I am so excited to now be able to dedicate my time to giving back to the youth in my community by coaching with strategic fundamental training and mentoring with Evolution Basketball!
