Although I have been involved in basketball for several years now I would say that I was definitely a late comer to the game. My first playing experience was for my high school team in 9th grade. I continued to play for the remainder of high school but never really knew what I was doing. It wasn’t until I became a coach that I developed a true appreciation for basketball.
A few years after I graduated from high school a friend of mine was coaching at Annandale High School and called me saying they needed a freshmen coach and wanted to know if I was interested; I said yes and never looked back. It was this experience that showed me how much I not only enjoyed basketball but how much I really loved mentoring. In fact, it inspired me to pursue a career in teaching as well, earning my Teaching License in 2016.
I was lucky with my first experience as a coach. I had the opportunity to coach a great group of kids on the freshmen team one year and then got moved up to the JV team the following year and was able to coach those same kids again. Those two years I spent with that group of kids helped me build relationships on and off the court that still last to this day. Hands down this has been the most fulfilling experience that basketball has provided me. The relationships and bonds that can be formed through sports, basketball specifically, have always been the thing that I most looked forward to.
In my first year with Evolution I have seen those same bonds formed between the young men and women who are seeking to improve their skills and the great training staff at Evolution that work tirelessly with them. I am excited to continue my basketball journey with Evolution and look forward to what the future holds.
