The game of basketball has been the biggest blessing that has occurred in my life. It has taught and shaped me into the man I am today. All of life’s amazing experiences have involved playing with a round piece of leather. Basketball helped me develop into the leader and mentor I am today. Simply playing the game allowed me to step into positions in which I was not comfortable in and pushed me to find a way to make myself fit in; which allowed me to grow stronger as an individual in all aspects of life.
As a kid, the ball was put into my hands early as a good amount of my family members played basketball or coached the game in some capacity. I started playing organized basketball at a young age and simply fell in love.
I attended Falls Church High School as a 98 lb. freshman in 2005 where I made the freshman basketball team and was disappointed because I felt that I was better than that. However, instead of getting down on myself, I took the freshman season as a season to humble myself and really attack the gym in the offseason with my uncle, Tony Harris, who went on to become my mentor and a leader in my life. This is when basketball took over my life; it was non-stop work every single day from early mornings to late nights. My sophomore season I was a varsity starter with the dreams of playing college basketball on the horizon. Junior and senior year I transferred to JEB Stuart high school where I began to flourish as a basketball player and I was honored to receive all district honors my senior year. Coming out of high school I had a few college interests that I took a few visits on, however none stuck out to me more than my alma mater Virginia Wesleyan College and there head coach Dave Macedo. Coach Macedo is now one of the most influential individuals in my life today.
My decision to play at Virginia Wesleyan was one of the best decisions of my life as my leadership and role model skills grew during my four years there. One of my favorite basketball moments in college was cutting down the nets after winning the conference championship. Knowing that our championship will go down in history and never leave the school makes it mean so much to me, and is definitely one of the highlights of my career.
Throughout my journey with basketball I have learned that dedication, hard work, and confidence are keys to not only succeeding in the game of basketball, but in life itself. I am excited to join the Evolution team and be a trainer because I want to give all of the knowledge and leadership skills that I have soaked up in my experiences to the youth. I hope that one-day they pass on what they obtained to the next generation. Being a trainer allows me to coach and teach the game I love to a younger generation and to see them take in what you have taught them and display it on the court is the joy in the job. I look forward to everything Evolution has in store for me and I will bring the energy every night for our next generation of basketball players.
